Sam Causer

I’m 24 years old and live in Stafford in the west midlands, i work at Perkins engines as an engineer. I have been fishing all my life as far back as I can remember, starting on the local canals with my Mom and Dad at around the age of 3. We used to go down in the summer months in the evening catching a variety of species such as daddy ruff, gudgeon, roach, skimmers and even the odd chub. I have progressed in my fishing since then and at around the age of 10 my Dad brought me my first 10meter pole and I started using this down a couple of local club waters with my Dad, him being a very good angler- teaching me the basics. I caught my first carp on one of the Izsak Walton club waters, this first go with an elasticated pole resulted in a 6lb common. I then started at around the age of 12 to go with my grandad who was a well-respected match angler having represented England at club level. He started teaching me how to get my speed up in landing fish and how to compete against other anglers. By this time I had definitely got the fishing bug and I didn’t want to do anything but go fishing. I then went on to start fishing open matches around the midlands and soon began to frame in these regularly. At the age of 14 I was on my way framing most weekends against some very good anglers, however I found myself wanting something else out of my fishing and started finding myself targeting the bigger fish even in matches, this is when the carp fishing bug started to take over. At around the age 16 I did my first night targeting big carp and this was when I realised this is what I had been missing out of my fishing. I then went on to purchase my first carp fishing set up and started fishing the local park lake I started to catch constantly out of here. I then went on to break the record of most fish caught in 24 hours having 19 fish on the bank up to mid-20s. by this time to say the carp bug had well and truly taken over was an understatement. I then started moving on to different venues catching consistently on everywhere I was going. That was it carp fishing had taken over for me and this is all I wanted to do. I have now gone on to fish all manner of venues from 80 acre low stocked pits, deep irrigation reservoirs and canals.
